The Story Peddler

The Weaver Trilogy begins with book one, The Story Peddler which is an imaginative original tale about a girl, Tanwen, whose stories turn into crystallized sculptures. Unfortunately, the king has  made it illegal to tell certain stories and she can’t control the outlawed ones from escaping her hands.

Tanwen ends up on the run from the king’s guard, but has help from others with secret gifts the king has made illegal. All of them threaten his legitimacy as king and he wants to maintain power. He taxes the people of his kingdom to poverty and no one truly admires him but only fears him.
With battle scenes and near escapes, this story keeps your interest until the end.

The Story Raider

Book two, The Story Raider, is even better because you get to know the characters more. Sometimes the uncommon names can be difficult to decipher who relates to whom in the first book. This could be a problem more with listening to the book versus reading it. Plus there are a lot of characters involved in the plot. It picks up where book one left off and reveals who the true villain is. It was a bit unclear in first book.

Read this if you like unique magical systems, original world building, and likable characters with some really dark and sad twists.
The narrator was excellent with extreme emotions like grief.  She switched between characters seamlessly and convincingly.

The Story Hunter

The Story Hunter was a perfect ending to this series. The audiobook narrator, Pam Turlow was phenomenal! She really knew how to capture each character uniquely with voice changes and emotions.

This is a story about redemption and second chances, but as in real life, not everyone chooses to accept the opportunity to change. Forgiveness may be a gift, but if not accepted, it loses its power. There are a lot of darker themes with one character suffering physical abuse and rape from her captors. Murder and warped desires for revenge present a formula for evil in contrast to the light. A few good characters were killed. The characters that were against murder and abuse of others attempted to end the enemy without violence, but that didn’t always work.

The magic system was original as several people are gifted with the ability to weave stories into objects. The strands could be used for beauty and creation of wonderful things, but they could also be used for danger and violence.
