‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the magical library

Not a creature was stirring except for Bella, the wary

The stories sat waiting on the shelves with care,

In hopes a reader would find adventure with them there;

Bella was comfortable in the cozy little nook,

Elayne said, “It’s magical and you’ll join the stories in those books”

Christmas treats appeared from mid-air,

“They came from the non-fiction section,” Elayne declared,

When the book opened, Bella became the story,

 It wasn’t pleasant, and some parts were gory;

She begged to leave then her memories were erased;

Thus began Bella’s fairy tale journey with many dangers to face,

The moon on the breast of the ocean waters’ reflection,

Where Bella met a captain who she gained much affection.

When, what to her wondering eyes appeared in the distance,

But several mermaids splashed out to prove their existence,

With each page of the tales, danger, and thrills lurked,

Bella met pirates, a dragon, and a man who was a bit of a jerk.

More rapid than typhoons a sea-witch came,

She cackled, and shouted, and called the fae by name;

“Now, PETER, now AEROWYN, break my curse or you’ll pay”

The half-eel women demanded as the ship swayed.

To the top of the masts! To the bottom of the hull!

The ship torn asunder and some pirates became fish food cull.

Survivors brought to safety with pixie dust to fly,

When they met the lost boys, and dangers were nigh,

Through the tests of the mermaids on Ageless Isle to pass,

A new ship was magicked to return the lass.

And then, among the twinkling stars in the sky

The vessel flew to avoid sea monsters as they dined on pie.

The perils weren’t over and Bella was still in danger,

But she had a bit of reprieve as she got to know the captain stranger.

His eyes were like chocolate; they were caring and kind

But he acted so stiffly, he was much too refined.

He rescued her from the enemy and kept her from harm

But he was aloof and kept his distance, he lacked certain charm.

There are so many details this poem lacks,

With missing sword fights, curses broken, and some hijacks.

And despite an attempt to avoid spoilers of the fairy tales’ end,

It’s true some of the twisted stories find a perfect way to mend.

Back in the magical library where time has stood still,

It’s Christmas time, they have returned from the stories full of thrills.
